thE ribbon
After a short analysis of the differents islands of Prague, Marion and me decided to work on the three islands on the city center, because it’s a really famous and dynamic place, in the heart of the city of Prague with a good visibility. Near, we can find a lot of famous building like Karluv bridge, Narodni divadlo, Manes and also Kampa Museum.
Firstly we imagined a pedestrian bridge between the three islands. Actually it’s not really easy to switch to one island to one another one… This bridge could create a link between them and the city to attract people who don’t know those islands.
Then, I decided to work individually more specifically on the island on the middle, Střelecký ostrov. I really enjoy this place with the views and its atmospheres. You have differents relationship with the water, and each part of the island has her own feelings.
My project is in the continuity of this idea to link the three islands, and it's a real part of this link.
Like a ribbon, It’s grafted to the actual bridge, Most Legii, and create new physical and visual connections between the city, the bridge and the island.
On one side, you could walk on the roof and go down to the island, or just stay on that public space for enjoying the wonderfull views. You can also take the lift at the same level of the bridge, to go inside this new building.
On the other part, the building create just new visual connection on the building and on the pedestrian bridge. If you wanna go down, you have to go to the stairs just after, or to the actual elevator, just in front.
All the building is really open the the water to advantage of the views.
The program complete the function already existing on this island: something related with games and relaxation, accessible to all, and which encourages meetings.
The space under the bridge is just closed by glass to keep the feeling of the stone bricks. This special space is dedicaded to workshop. It’s an open and flexible area. Sometimes, I imagine some art exhibition, movies projections or children’s performances. It’s also possible to use this area as an extension of the games area just next to it or open up to the rest of the island.
Indeed, on the north, you can find a ludotheque, so a toy or games library.
One part is free for childs, and the other, on the north and upstrairs, is more for teenagers or adults who can work or play on a calmer environment, and have a look on childs in the same time.
Upstrairs, it’s another acces to public space on the roof, to link the ramp and the inside space.
The third part of the Ribbon is a coffee with a direct view on Narodni Divadlo. It gives acces to the pedestrian bridge to continue towards Slovansky ostrov.
